Roger Schmidt, Benfica’s coach, made it clear this Saturday that he intends to fulfill his contract with the Reds until the end and that he is not on the market. The German coach thus intends to dispel rumors of a possible departure at the end of the season.

The discontent of many “Eagles” fans has been visible in recent weeks, having become more pronounced after their elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Marseille. Roger Schmidt has been the main target of criticism and the coach has already stated, clearly, that fans who do not want to support the team should stay at home.

In this context, speculation about the coach’s future at Luz has increased, but this Saturday, in preview of the match with Famalicão, on the 32nd round of the League, Schmidt was clearer than ever regarding his personal desire.

“You can use my statements from the last press conference or the one two weeks ago, last month or when I signed the new contract. For me it is very clear that I will stay at Benfica until 2026, that’s what I want, that’s why I I signed,” he said.

“I didn’t expect to win the championship four times, but it’s a great challenge to work in Portugal. We’re having a good season, maybe not enough to be champions, but still, if we see Benfica’s situation two years ago and now, It’s completely different. I’m focused on my club, very happy to be here, I see a lot of potential for development and to win more titles”, he concluded.
