Central defender showed his face after the defeat in Famalicão

Otamendi analyzed Benfica’s defeat in Famalicão, which allows Sporting to celebrate the title of national champion this Sunday.

“It’s clear that we wanted to win. It was a very bad time. We lacked intensity throughout the season, we didn’t compete in the Champions League or Europe. In the championship we had ups and downs and the same happened in the Portuguese Cup. We have to think about what we did, we must apologize to the fans, who paid to support us”, he began by saying, into Sport TV’s microphones.

«The times I wasn’t here to speak wasn’t my decision, but rather one of communication. I was attacked for not being here in the most difficult moments and I could never defend myself in that sense. I have no problem standing up when things go wrong. When they go well I prefer it to be others», he continued.

Regarding the differences compared to last season: «Important, competitive players left and newer ones arrived. Benfica doesn’t give you time, you have to arrive prepared to win titles. We will try to face the next season in the best way possible, without making the mistakes I mentioned. We must honor the jersey.”
