Pedro Proença, president of Liga Portugal and European Leagues, addressed, this Wednesday, on the sidelines of Rio Ave’s Green and White Gala, the issue of centralized television rights and the importance of Portugal moving up places in the UEFA Rankings.

«The diploma and the law are defined. We have to look at our process and realize that, in Europe, only Portugal and Cyprus do not have centralized television rights. It’s a sign that we have to reverse. This process will happen, robustly. The clubs are working and have created a society that only works on these rights, where the clubs with the most contracts are,” he began by saying to the journalists present.

«The work is being done jointly and we will comply with what the legal diploma requires. This direction was the one who managed to define the dates of 2026 and 2028 as the period where we will have this centrality”, he added.

Pedro Proença also spoke about the importance of moving up places in the UEFA rankings: «It is a process that we are very attentive to. There is a schedule and something that worries the domestic leagues, namely the Portuguese league. We had to make some adaptations to our competitive frameworks. The League Cup was reduced from 43 games to just seven. We have adapted our competitions to what an effective climb up the UEFA rankings is and what we want to be. It is a process that international entities seek to make their commercial properties profitable. The Portugal league adapted. We know the challenges are great. We have to know how to adapt.”
