About a year ago, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa turned his back on his eldest son, Alexander, in a cut that is no longer new to father and son. In the past, the two had already been angry and the subject was the same again: issues related to football and, more precisely, money.

This is because, as a sports agent, Alexandre took on, in recent years, some of the most important (and profitable) transactions involving FC Porto players, in deals that would end up under the jurisdiction of the Public Ministry, which in 2021 announced that it was investigating a scheme, allegedly carried out by father and son, together with businessman Pedro Pinho, so that part of the money from sales commissions returned to the family, with a total of more than 40 million euros whose whereabouts were uncertain and never justified before the Tax Authority.

“In order to place players at FC Porto or sell FC Porto players, agents agree to return to sports directors of the same club, namely Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, part of the amounts charged for their intervention as intermediaries in these deals”can be read in the order from the Public Ministry published at the time by ‘Sábado’.

Now, according to The Mag, it was this process and some secrets made public with it that led to the cutting of relations between Pinto da Costa and Alexandre, which took on greater importance for the president of the dragons who at the time was re-applying for leadership of the club and showed, in this way, that he was willing to do anything in the name of greater transparency for the club. Despite the cut, this would not be enough to convince FC Porto’s members, who gave a clear signal that the change was imperative, with André Villas-Boas’ resounding victory. Now, with the winds of change, the president of the dragons necessarily sees himself more exposed and with the possibility that the review of SAD’s accounts could bring to light new data that could compromise the process in which he is being investigated.

In any case, it is certain that he will have to face his son soon because of this case, in a controversial process that promises to test the versions of father and son.

DAUGHTER IS A GREAT SUPPORT

With the son out of the picture, the youngest daughter, Joana, is currently Pinto da Costa’s great support and a kind of right-hand man. As the years went by, the two became closer, which also contributed greatly to the arrival of grandchildren.

However, with the change in Pinto da Costa’s life there will be changes in the dynamics of the entire family and, curiously, Alexandre is one of those who will suffer the least, since, at the time of the fight with his father, he had already been removed from all intricacies of FC Porto.

Joana, in turn, is currently considering her future, as it is certain that she will lose the position she had for several years in the club’s marketing department, as André Villas-Boas wants to make a complete cut with the past and not maintaining Pinto da Costa’s structure, especially people with direct links to his predecessor.

A new reality that no one has yet gotten used to, especially Pinto da Costa, who will not be accepting a path away from FC Porto so well, as he practically knows no other reality. Having led the Dragons for more than 40 years, his friends believe that a life away from the club will be a shock for the sports director, however the change is already taking place.
