2024 marks the end of the line for some models of iPhone, as they will no longer be eligible for future updates. With Apple’s rapid pace of innovation, some devices end up falling behind as new operating systems and features are released. This year, three specific models will not receive iOS 18, scheduled to accompany the launch of the iPhone 16.

iPhone models without updates in 2024

Apple usually updates its devices with the latest operating systems, but the time has come to say goodbye to updates for the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

These devices, powered by the A12 Bionic processor, will follow the same path as the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which have already been excluded from support for iOS 17 due to the A11 Bionic processor.

Launched in 2018 with iOS 12, the X line iPhones had around six years of support, a life cycle considered standard for Apple products. As time passes, it is natural that other models will also be gradually removed from the list of supported devices, and now it is the X line’s turn.

The future of iPhones with A13 Bionic processor

There is already speculation about the fate of devices with the A13 Bionic processor, such as the iPhone 11 and the 2020 iPhone SE. Although there are no confirmations yet, it is possible that these models will also be removed from the update list in the future, possibly in 2025, when iOS 19 is expected to be released.

What to expect?

For Apple fans and users of these specific models, it’s a good time to start thinking about an upgrade, especially if you want to continue enjoying the latest innovations and security features that new versions of iOS offer.

While it is a natural part of the technology product lifecycle, discontinuing support for updates may be a signal to explore new options available in the market.

So if you own an iPhone XR, be closer than it seems.
