How will REV work in your car? Mandatory from July

-

Vehicle safety must be a priority for manufacturers in the segment. In this sense, there are changes that will happen in the near future. Have you heard about REV, it will be mandatory from July.

REV can prevent many accidents

ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which translated into Portuguese could be something like Advanced Driving Assistance Systems, are already a reality in the automotive segment, but from July onwards REV will be mandatory. Talking about REV is talking about a reversing detector that will allow you to detect and alert people and objects behind the vehicle.

According to the information, the REV has a range of 50m. As mentioned here, to detect closer objects, ultrasonic sensors located on the outside of the bumper work. These detect objects at around 3-4 meters and, based on ultrasound, in a similar way to radars, locate the objects or people. This system is supported by the rear camera, which allows the driver to view the rear area of the car, making it easier to drive in reverse.

According to a study carried out, it was found that of the accidents involving reversing vehicles and pedestrians, 41% could have been avoided through camera-based systems. If only ultrasonic sensors were used, 31% of accidents would have been avoided.

It should be noted that from July 7, 2024, the new vehicle safety regulation, known as GSR2, comes into force.
