The Spanish page specializing in video games Vandal It says that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have a magnetic docking system for the Joy Con controls. If this rumor is confirmed, users should not be able to use the current model’s Joy Con on the next console or, at least, backward compatibility should be difficult to achieve. The Switch Pro Controllers, which do not physically connect to the console, should be able to be used on both consoles without a problem.

According to the ArsTechnicawhich cites the Vandal, several manufacturers of accessories and peripherals confirm this choice, revealing that they have already had their first contact with the Switch 2 placed inside an opaque box. When it comes to size, we can expect a console larger than the current Switch and smaller than the Steam Deck.

One question that still has no concrete answer from Nintendo concerns the software of the new console, and it is not yet known whether this model will allow the thousands of games designed for the current generation console to be played. There are reports, not officially confirmed, from programmers who reveal that they are testing this backwards compatibility.

The Switch 2 should be launched in early 2025, a date that has been changed to allow developers to develop more games and have an attractive ecosystem right from the start.
