Upload to computer? Connected all night? Know not to damage your cell phone battery

Cell phones have become indispensable in everyday life, along with accessories such as covers to protect them from bumps or scratches, headphones, microphones and conventional or fast chargers.

It is precisely these last accessories that need to be given the most attention, as the phone’s battery tends to deteriorate if it is not taken care of, which reduces the useful life of the devices.

That’s why it’s important to buy original products that are compatible with the cell phone’s capabilities. Furthermore, attention should be paid to how the device is charged.

Below, check out how to do this correctly.

How to charge a cell phone correctly?
While it may seem like a simple act, plugging and unplugging your phone from an electrical outlet, the reality is that a series of modifications to this process can increase battery performance.

The correct way to connect is to connect the charger to the mains (socket) first and then connect the cable to the phone, thus avoiding large discharges or power spikes that could affect the device.

And, to disconnect, the process is the opposite: first disconnect the phone cable and then the charger from the socket. Furthermore, it is not recommended to use the device while it is charging, as this may cause it to overheat.

Recommendations from some companies, such as Huawei, also advise that charging be done in cool, dry places. The same goes for the interior of the car, as high temperatures inside the vehicle can affect the electrical circuits.

How to avoid damage to your cell phone battery?
It is often common to leave the device plugged in overnight, but this is not good for the battery. To avoid this problem, some iOS (iPhone) and Android devices come with a built-in charge limit function. When they reach 80%, they automatically suspend current flow and stop receiving power.

This is because, regarding the minimum and maximum capacity, Movistar advises keeping the battery between 20% and 80% to extend the device’s useful life and take advantage of charging cycles. Therefore, if your device does not have this automatic function, it is recommended not to leave your cell phone plugged in all night.

Common mistakes when charging a cell phone battery
Do not use an original charger. Imitation chargers can help in an emergency, but the ideal is to buy original accessories that guarantee optimal charging time;

Charge your cell phone on the computer. Sometimes it can be a convenient alternative, but this affects the load capacity and even slows down the process;

Let the cell phone completely discharge. Although it can happen often, especially when you are away from home without a charger, the ideal is not to let the battery drop below 20%.
