Stellar Blade | Fans accuse censorship of the game and ask for sexy costumes back

According to players, Stellar Blade’s launch update changed the design of some costumes, making them less sensual

Fans complain about supposed censorship in Stellar Blade, exclusive to PlayStation 5 released on April 26th. An update to the game changed the design of some costumes worn by the heroine EVE and many people were upset to see that the character was no longer showing off as much as before.

Over the weekend, several reports from players who compared the version of the game present on physical media without the update with the digital version of the game showed subtle differences in the heroine’s clothes. One of them was the Holiday Rabbit, a type of swimsuit worn by the character that ended up gaining more fabric with the update.

In the original version of the game, the costume was much more low-cut and showed a lot of the character’s crotch, in addition to having a very large neckline. With update 1.001, this detail was changed and EVE started to show a little less skin in this part of her body, in addition to wearing a top that hid part of her breasts.

And the Holiday Rabbit wasn’t the only garment to undergo redesigns. The Cybernetic Bondage, Blue Monsoon and Ocean Maid outfits also ended up undergoing the same treatment.

However, eroticism was not the only part that, according to critics, was removed from the game. According to comparisons made by fans, the version available after the update also softened some scenes of violence, reducing the gore and the amount of blood when EVE defeats some Naytibas, the monsters of this universe.

The main revolt on the part of players is that Shift Up, the game’s producer, had promised that Stellar Blade it would not go through any type of censorship and that the same version of the game would be released all over the world. The main argument is that the game has an age rating of 18 and that, therefore, there is no reason to introduce this type of restriction.

The big point is that the changes were never officially addressed by either the studio or Sony. So much so that all the community activity in recent days was almost like investigative work, with players comparing images of the game before and after the update to understand what was happening.

Because of this, throughout the weekend, Stellar Blade has become one of the most talked about topics on social media. Furthermore, some players started a campaign for the studio to remove the changes made in the update, making the costumes available in their original design.

A petition, called FreeStellarBlade , was created and, to date, has accumulated 46.3 thousand signatures. “We trust what Sony said, we made the game #1 in pre-sales worldwide because of that, and this is the real game we want,” says the campaign text.
