Although Samsung was one of the pioneers in the foldable devices market, and has remained at the top of the table as the company with the most devices sold in this market, this is now changing in China.

According to data from market analysis company IDC, Samsung was overtaken by Huawei in China in the foldable device market. During the first quarter of the year, Samsung’s share of foldable devices in China reached just 5.9%, after the company reached peaks of 30%.

Analysts point out that Samsung will have led sales in this market because it was a pioneer in launching products for it. However, as competition began to emerge, so did the company’s problems.

There are now several manufacturers producing their own foldable devices, and as such, there are more alternatives to Samsung devices in general.

While Samsung is in decline, Huawei, on the other hand, is growing from strength to strength. The company has been increasing its participation in China, and is currently the leader in sales of foldable devices in the region – a trend that should continue in the near future.

The company currently has a 44.1% market share, while Honor reaches 26.7% – also surpassing Samsung.

In third place is vivo, with 12.6%, followed by OPPO with 9%. Samsung only appears in fifth place, with a current 5.9% share of the foldable devices market.

In addition to competition, another point indicated for Samsung’s decline in popularity in China is related to geopolitical issues. The Chinese market tends to opt more for local brands, which have a direct presence in the country, and not external entities such as Samsung – something that occurs in several sectors.
