Meta is looking to reward users who use Threads — its newest social network — and, to that end, is offering a bonus program that pays content creators who publish and interact on the platform.

While it hasn’t formally announced the initiative, an Instagram support page offers some details: Users can earn money “based on the performance or number of their posts on Threads.” Some are already reporting receiving thousands of dollars for high-performing posts: a screenshot circulating shows a bonus of US$5,000 (about R$25,000).

For now, the program may be small-scale, but it represents big tech’s effort to increase engagement on the platform launched last year. At other times, Meta has offered bonuses of up to US$10,000 on Instagram and Facebook for anyone posting in the “Reels” format — the doubled amount considers that a video requires more effort and production than text content on Threads.

Last week, founder Mark Zuckerberg estimated that the app has more than 150 million monthly users and speculated that it could one day be the company’s next “billion-dollar platform.” Recently, Meta also partnered with Taylor Swift’s team to get the pop star on social media to promote her latest album in order to get more interested parties there.

In addition to Meta, X (formerly Twitter) also offers creators payments based on their engagement, but the program is restricted to those who pay for the premium subscription.
