Design and Construction of the C1 Mini Laser Projector

The Hisense C1 is a stylish little “box” with a metallic design. It has a slightly industrial look with a touch of modern design, and fits into a similar design line as the Hisense PX of ultra-short throw projectors. It's unobtrusive for such a serious piece of hardware, and can blend into the background much better than most projectors – without forgetting the 100-inch televisions it replaces.

The front and sides have ventilation that allows smooth airflow, avoiding intrusive fan noise, even when the projector is operating at maximum brightness. The glass optics are not covered, so care must be taken not to touch or scratch the glass cover. The lens is surrounded by sensors to make automatic image and focus adjustments.

The back of the projector is almost non-existent – it only has a strip of ports at the bottom. These include two USB ports, wired LAN, optical audio output, and 3.5mm analog audio output. There are only two HDMI ports between these, which can be a little limiting. An adapter DC barrel for power supply is also located at the back.

Although the Hisense C1 remote is the main means of controlling it, There are also a number of controls available on the top of the projector which can be useful if you just need to turn it on, pause or resume playback, adjust the volume and change inputs.

The bottom of the Hisense C1 has four adjustable feet that can help you tilt the projector as needed. If you are projecting from a shelf, projection deviation may cause problems without a tripod or stand that can tilt the C1 downward, but there is a typical tripod screw slot available to help in this case. Although the projector is a little heavy, it is light enough to be placed on a tripod.

Performance of this Hisense machine

In the right conditions, the Hisense C1 is brilliant. In less than ideal conditions, it continues to perform well. Thanks to its bright laser light source and huge color gamut, the Hisense C1 is capable of transmitting a sizable, bright image that holds up in semi-lit rooms and dazzles in dark rooms. The projector's 4K resolution also helps it hold up when stretched.

We tested with several videos and series, and the way this projector behaved was really impressive. In a Manchester City vs Real Madrid football game for the Champions League, the green of the pitch did not go unnoticed and the vibrant colors of the players' equipment was also something to notice. It's a unique experience to have a football night with a group of friends without having to worry about everyone being able to watch the TV – which is a quarter the size of this projector’s image.

In our tests, we used it against an all-white wall. In all cases, the projector proved capable of presenting a very sharp image.

In addition to HDR10 and HLG support, the Hisense C1 also supports Dolby Vision. So when the content demands it, it can display a highly detailed HDR image that lets you get the most out of your multimedia content. with brilliant highlights and details across the range.

C1 Mini Laser Projector Software and Interface

Many projectors come with Android TV or Google TV as a smart interface, and even Hisense has a handful of models that come with these platforms. The Hisense C1 is an exception as it uses Vidaa, a platform created by a subsidiary of Hisense.

As a positive point, the interface is very intuitive, presenting a list of applications right on the home page. The software also allows you to quickly jump between the home page and content transmission by repeatedly pressing the home button on the remote.

Vidaa has some disadvantages, namely a serious lack of applications. It has many of the most common streaming apps, like Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, Apple TV, and even Netflix. But it still doesn't have many others, such as Max and Hulu, as well as non-video applications that many will be able to use, such as Steam Link, GeForce Now or Xbox.

Fortunately, Hisense doesn't force you to get a Vidaa account just to use the projector, so you can configure some of the available streaming apps if you want, or simply bypass the built-in interface to use a connected streaming device. This way, you only have to rely on the projector interface to adjust the settings every now and then, a task that goes smoothly.

Sound

Overall, the Hisense C1 has a genuinely impressive speaker array. While it doesn't rival a dedicated external audio device, the built-in speakers offer plenty of volume and a decent amount of bass.

The feeling of scale and space that the projector tried to reproduce with its built-in columns is to be commended when viewing the Chinese Grand Prix summary. However, it becomes a bit annoying at higher volume levels as the speakers transmit some noise. But at so-called “normal” levels, the sound remains much better than that produced by most projectors.

Hisense Mini Projector C1 Verdict

The Hisense C1 is an above average projector in terms of brightness and performance. With a 4K image transmitted in rich colors that make the real world feel alive, there's little fault to find in the image quality of the Hisense C1.

It could benefit from a more complete operating system or it could at least include more HDMI ports so that constantly changing cables doesn't get in the way of what is otherwise an excellent experience – but errors in the hardware and software department are small and infrequent.

For everything that the Hisense C1 offers for its price of €1799.00, it is a gadget Easy to recommend for home cinema fans.
