YouTube Premium releases “Jump ahead” button for subscribers in the US

In testing since March, the Jump Ahead function has just reached the hands of YouTube Premium subscribers. It is an AI (artificial intelligence) that advances videos to the most relevant parts, that is, of greatest interest to whoever is watching.

After double-tapping the skip button, a new pill-shaped button called “Jump ahead” appears on the screen, indicating that it is possible to advance the video to the region in which users of the platform most often choose, while instead of just fast forwarding 10 seconds. The button appears for a moment in the bottom right corner and then disappears.

O Canaltech even reported that the new functionality was being tested, when the company stated that an AI algorithm would consider video viewing patterns to identify the segments most watched by users — considered by the algorithm as main points to increase public engagement with a given content.

Only available in the US

So far, the new function is only available in the United States and for videos in English, from the YouTube app for Android. In fact, it is worth informing that, even so, it is not yet active for any video, only for some selected by the platform.

For subscribers, the way to test is to access the YouTube experiments page and then access the menu settings and then Test new experimental features.

In other words: it is an experimental function from Google that has opened a new testing stage for American users, with a deadline for evaluation until June 1st. After this period, the function must be released to more videos and users, if its performance is positive.
