The tragedies we are seeing in Rio Grande do Sul Today, they are just one of many proofs that global warming brings immense risk to humanity and, if this continues like this, soon there will be no more “humanity” to take any risk.

This is because, according to a new study published in the journal Nature, climate change could worsen so much that, in approximately 250 million years, life on Earth will be completely unsustainable, unable to be tolerated even by humans.

The study was carried out jointly, with scientists from the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the United States making up the team, and a simulation was run using a supercomputer. This simulation considered historical data from planet Earth for climate variations, tectonic plate movements, the chemical composition of the oceans and, above all, how each of these elements interact with each other.

The conclusion: if the advancement of global warming If we continue at the current rate, within 250 million years, our atmosphere will have so much carbon dioxide (CO2) that, combined with the increasing heat coming from the Sun, it will make our climate impossible for growing food. Consequently, the Earth will become impractical for the maintenance of animal life and will then lead us to extinction.

In practical numbers, the simulation understood that the Earth’s average temperature would increase to something between 40º C (Celsius) and 50º C: according to a previous study, published in 2021, these numbers also represent the support limit for the human body. The problem: other animals and plants – especially those we feed on – have different tolerances, dying before we do.

The simulation also considered that the increase in average temperature would also be accompanied by an increase in relative humidity, which would make it difficult even to plant foods that do not require constant water, making the Earth even more uninhabitable.

The study has open access and is available on the publication’s website.
