iPhone 17 line will have an unprecedented “Slim” model and smaller Dynamic Island, says rumor

While rumors are accumulating about the iPhone 16 line that debuts this year with necessary changes, new details about the iPhone 17 series, which will only be launched in September 2025, are beginning to emerge, indicating even more news. Among them would be the arrival of a new “Slim” model, a 24 MP front camera on all devices and 12 GB of RAM on premium models.

Apple is considering replacing the iPhone 16 Plus with the unprecedented “iPhone 17 Slim”, which could also have a smaller 6.6-inch screen instead of 6.7 inches and a thinner body to live up to its name.

Pu says Apple is working on design changes with a “more complex” aluminum frame for the iPhone 17, 17 Slim and 17 Pro.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max would be the only one made in titanium — contrary to what we had in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and which should be repeated in the 2024 generation — and could also adopt a “narrower Dynamic Island” while the three others would follow the current wider format.

It is said that the smaller Dynamic Island would be possible thanks to a new “metal” technology to bring the photo sensor closer to the lens and reduce the size of Face ID.

As for specifications, the iPhone 17 and 17 Slim are expected to have 8 GB of RAM and an A18 or A19 chip. The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max could debut with 12 GB of RAM and A19 Pro chip.

Currently, the common pair of the iPhone 15 line offers 6 GB of RAM and the most powerful pair is the only one with 8 GB of RAM. For the iPhone 16 line, rumors suggest that all four models will adopt 8GB of RAM.

Finally, Jeff Pu’s note also mentions the debut of a new front camera with a 24 MP sensor replacing the current 12 MP cameras, a rumor that coincides with information provided by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

More details related to the iPhone 17 series should emerge in the coming months as its launch is only expected to take place in September 2024.

Apple is holding its dedicated event this Tuesday (7) to debut the new iPad Air in two sizes and iPad Pro with OLED screen, as well as updated accessories such as Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard.
