Google wants to make switching from an old phone to a new one even faster, the site has discovered Android Authority via the tipster known as @AssembleDebug on X (formerly Twitter). An app aimed at transmitting data hides clues to a function that, if implemented, could make the process more agile.

The new transfer method is called “MultiTransportD2dTransport” and is hidden in the Data Restore Tool app in build 1.0.624892571. The clues related to the feature were two strings found in the application code that mention the possibility of optionally “accelerating data transmission”.

At first, the Google’s solution to speed up the process of transferring files from one cell phone to another involves the use of Wi-Fi and cable connection simultaneously. Thus, devices would not depend on a single bus to transfer information, theoretically accelerating data sharing.

In addition to the new feature, Google also appears to be working on another tool that will allow you to transfer files from one cell phone to another at any time, even after the first use. The function is currently called “Restore Anytime” (“Restore at any time”, in free translation), but it does not present much information at the moment.

Currently, the Data transfer from one cell phone to another is available only when the target device has been newly formatted (or that just came out of the box). The new development in preparation would remove this limitation, but with certain restrictions:

  • Restoration copies photos, contacts, messages and other files contained on the original device;
  • The user will not lose the most recent data and new files will be added to the new device, but it will not interfere with the preferences set in Settings on the target cell phone.

For now, There is no release date for any of the new features. However, since the new feature is contained in a native Google app, it will not be necessary to have the latest version of Android to take advantage of it.
