If you use Chrome to browse, you know for sure that you can do a lot of things with this browser. Depending on your needs, you may have various Chrome extensions and other add-ons running while you browse the internet. That being said, the amount of bandwidth Chrome consumes can affect its performance, as well as your device’s battery life. Google is all too aware of this problem and has been working on solutions to improve performance in Chrome.

Chrome has a new section to improve performance

The well-known leakster https://twitter.com/Leopeva64/status/1787184609274335500/ recently posted an update on X (formerly Twitter), including a screenshot of changes the company made to a performance dashboard for Chrome’s sidebar. Compared to how the Performance panel looked when it was introduced in testing in November 2023, there is now a new Health section of the browser. This section sits on top of the Battery Saver and Memory Saver sections – also housed under the Performance tab – to help users get a better idea of how Chrome is affecting their browsing experience.

Originally, Google housed access to Performance preferences in the “More tools” option in Chrome’s overflow menu. Now, it appears to be emerging as a standalone menu option, as it has appeared in recent versions of Chrome Canary. By accessing your performance preferences, you can get a quick view of how much RAM Chrome is consuming while you browse. In turn, you can adjust these settings by Power Saving or Memory Saving, for example, to limit the impact of Chrome on your device.

Depending on the device you are using, these preferences may or may not be enabled by default. For example, Power Saver doesn’t activate if you’re using Chrome on the desktop (for obvious reasons). In any case, it appears that Google is moving towards making Performance settings more visible. At the beginning of 2023, many of them were still hidden behind flags, while the company resolved the problems. As you can see in the latest screenshots, they will soon be able to be used by Chrome users while browsing the Internet.
