Fashion Squared: Huawei adopts Apple Watch-like design for new Watch Fit 3 – Computers

-

The wearables line is increasingly important to Huawei’s business strategy. And the manufacturer currently has different lines of smart bracelets and smartwatches in its catalog. In April, the Huawei Band 9 arrived on the market, a bracelet focused on monitoring users’ well-being, fitness and sleep, debuting some of the Chinese manufacturer’s latest technologies.

The catalog has now been expanded with the arrival of the Watch Fit 3, an intermediate line in its catalogue, for users who don’t need the luxury of the Watch GT series, but rather something functional and practical, keeping the main features of their wearables clear. SAPO TEK has been testing the model in recent days and one of the highlights is the redesign of its design.

In previous models, despite this being a complete smartwatch, its design with a long vertical screen was constantly confused with a smart bracelet. As Andreas Zimmer, Product Strategy at Huawei Europe, explained to SAPO TEK in an advance presentation, the manufacturer completely reinvented the product. Its “form factor” is completely new, now with a square-shaped design, which is very reminiscent of the Apple Watch line of smartphones.

Huawei justifies the design change by greater comfort of use on the wrist, as it was created to accompany the user 24/7. AND This was proven during our experience, that because it is so light and its strap is so malleable that we even forget that it is on our wrist. The manufacturer says that its 43×36 screen is the ideal measurements, what it calls Fashion Squared for the new vision of the Watch Fit 3.

Andreas Zimmer points out that the Huawei Health app continues to be the central fitness and health experience, also serving as a communication vehicle between its wearables and smartphones. Its laboratories in Helsinki continue to create algorithms and functionalities completely aimed at European users. “It is a living organism that is updated with new features over time.” And the company has collaborated with fitness personalities to create workouts for its users. The brand even states that the user is accompanied by a full-time personal trainer.

O The model is 9.9 mm thick, weighing just 26 grams, in an aluminum body. In direct comparison with its Fitbit and Apple Watch rivals, Huawei says this model is thinner and lighter. Its AMOLED screen is 1.82 inches, made up of a metal frame made up of 2.5D glass. Andreas Zimmer explains that its rounded corners have aluminum protection, with its screen having a ratio of 77% in relation to the chassis. The screen has 1,500 nits of brightness and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. And it is waterproof and can be used up to five meters deep.

Also noteworthy is its rotating crown, as an element for interacting with the watch. This can be used to enlarge the menu icons or even adjust the intensity of the flashlight. Still in terms of design, this Watch Fit 3 was created for a younger audience, being available in six colors: black, pink, green, white, gray and pearl.. The bracelet’s insert, created by Huawei, secures it with a simple click, making it easy to change the color, whether to match the wearer’s clothes or mood. The manufacturer is promoting the wearable as a fashion accessory.

Screen with detailed and tidy information

The screen has a good image, allowing you to read smaller texts and interact with the icons available on the dial. In the new design, the display presents quick access to the fitness tool, sleep, the goal wheel and calories burned on the main screen.. It also shows the steps taken in real time, without cluttering up information, all of it well organized, being one of the favorite points of our experience with the equipment.

A UX renewal was to take several design elements from its GT series, using the same color language, such as green, yellow and red that represent the levels of tiredness and hydration during fitness exercises.. In this field, Huawei also added features, namely Smart Contextual Activity Recommendations, which are basically recommendations based on what the user is doing.

The goal rings are easier to read, like the total steps, exercises and calories burned, producing respective reports. A Huawei also explains that the smartwatch captures external signals, such as the temperature of the street, presenting alternative proposals to the user. For example, if it’s very hot, suggest a bike session at home. The virtual instructor helps with exercises and even stretching, in a personalized way. When a race ends, you will receive instructions on what you can do next.

O wearable also helps measure calories consumed, helping the smartwatch’s calculations through a list of products that you can mark as consumed, listing their calories. In complete workouts, the equipment starts by offering tips for warming up and exercise proposals, with a prediction of the fat to be burned.

O system introduces the heart rate broadcast system, where basically heartbeats are recorded and shared with other equipment. For example, when you’re on a treadmill, you can sync your smartwatch with the machine and share that information via Bluetooth. The watch features 101 compatible sports.

Monitoring technologies have been updated, such as TruSeen 5.5 to monitor the user’s sleep, featuring a new interface. It also has GPS, so you can use and record the location of your exercises without the need for a smartphone. The equipment does not have a temperature sensor that helps record menstrual cycles when used by women, but it can be recorded manually on the calendar.

A The manufacturer promises 10 days of normal use and seven if you use it intensively. The Watch Fit 3 can answer calls, receive and respond to messages via SMS and WhatsApp, without using your smartphone.

O Watch Fit 3 hits the market on May 22nd with a price of 159 euros. There is a special version, with a leather strap that costs 179 euros.

A Huawei’s collection of new features also includes the Watch 4 Pro Space Edition, a very limited edition, with a new design, in a red and black ceramic frame. Its manufacturing process takes a week, and it is necessary to apply different techniques to transform the ceramic into a red tone, doubling the difficulty in obtaining the double color. The crown has a LAVAL design, inspired by the inventor who created the shape of rockets. This luxury model costs 649 euros and also arrives on May 22nd.
