As has been the tradition in recent World Cups, several emblematic characters in the stands have gained popularity on the internet. A young fan dressed as a sheikh went viral in the opening match of the World Cup between Qatar and Ecuador, when he was outraged by the second goal conceded by the hostess. He is called Af Jal Thani.

Moving his arms due to the Qatari defeat, the prince appears fixing the Muslim scarf (gutra) that was coming out of his head. His negative expressions made him known worldwide.

At just 15 years old, Af Jal Thani is an important name in the host country. The teenager is the son of the former emir of Qatar (between 1995 and 2013), Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. His elder brother Jassim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has relinquished his position as the direct heir to one of the richest sheikhs in the world. The initial information is from youtuber João Paulo Grandão.

After the backlash, Af Jal Thani began to frequently feed his profiles on social networks. Today, he has nearly 100,000 followers on Instagram. What you see most are the thousands of Brazilian comments on his posts. The young man thanked for all the affection received in recent days.

One of his brothers, named Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is the current emir of Qatar, and was involved in the purchase of Paris Saint-Germain. (Folhapress)
