Arrested for the murder of a tour guide were attacked by drug dealers after the case came to light

The Barra Homicide Police Station identified the two women who participated in the robbery attempt that ended with the death of tour guide Daniel Mascarenhas Xavier, 31, in downtown Rio, in the early hours of last Wednesday. According to the police, after the images of the crime were released, the criminals were attacked by drug traffickers from Morro da Providência for drawing the attention of public security agents to the location. As a result, Marcelly Albuquerque, the blonde woman who appears in the video, is still hospitalized at the Lourenço Jorge hospital, with a fractured arm and other abrasions. She still doesn’t have a release date. The one on the back, identified as Ana Claudia Pires, is still being held at DH.

According to police chief Rômulo Assis, the testimonies collected from the criminals’ relatives would indicate that the women are companions and have been carrying out robberies in the region for at least three months. Both confessed to the crime to the police. In a statement at DH, in the presence of a lawyer, Ana Cláudia preferred to remain silent.

Images taken by security cameras show the moment when the two women — a blonde, who is riding the motorcycle, and another brunette — approach the tour guide on Rua 20 de Abril. The criminal who is on the back points a gun at Daniel, who hands over his belongings. But soon after, he reacts and holds her hand, trying to get out of the gun’s sights. The two get off the bike and fight the guide, until the blonde takes a knife and stabs him several times.

The violence lasts just over two minutes. As Daniel is repeatedly hit, a cyclist passes by, takes a close look at the scene and drives away. At least three pedestrians also watch, but do nothing. A taxi driver comes to reverse the vehicle. Even with Daniel asking for help, the driver starts the car and leaves without providing help. The guide, then, walks out of the place, with the body covered in blood. At a certain point in the video, it is still possible to observe that a man in a blue shirt asks the women for the knife used in the crime. The dark-haired criminal hands over the object and he leaves.

According to the Fire Department, Daniel was found dead shortly afterwards, at the Souza Aguiar Hospital, about 300 meters from the place where he was attacked. Teams from the 5th BPM (Praça da Harmonia) were also called and confirmed the death of the tour guide. A knife and a simulacrum of a firearm were seized at the scene and sent for expertise.

The case is being investigated by the Capital Homicide Police Station, which has heard witnesses. According to them, the women insinuated to people who approached them that the victim was a criminal and that he had attacked both of them.

Daniel was stabbed five times in the back and neck, according to the autopsy report. The exam, obtained exclusively by GLOBO, shows that the boy had a hemorrhage after suffering injuries to the chest and lungs.
