John Kennedy’s celebration of Fluminense’s second goal in the 2-1 victory over Coritiba this Saturday, in a game valid for the 35th round of the Brasileirão, was a “tribute” to former striker Fred. Nino confirmed the joke in a mixed interview after the game at Maracanã.

Nino says that John Kennedy’s celebration was to lift Fred’s spirits

– The highlight of the game was the celebration of John Kennedy. I’ll tell you the whole story. Fred is the kind of guy who, if this happened to anyone else, he would make fun of. Since that happened, we analyzed the video, analyzed the highlights, the speed with which he threw himself on the ground (laughs) – explained the defender.

– Today when we arrived at the hotel, I asked Paulo Angioni, who is a very serious guy: “Seu Paulo, where is Fred? He’s always here.” He said Fred was a little shaken. So we agreed that, when he arrived at the hotel, everyone would throw themselves on the floor to show support for him. He didn’t go to the hotel, so we agreed that whoever scored a goal would pay tribute. John Kennedy couldn’t simulate his speed to jump, when he was scared he was too fast (laughs). But here is our tribute, very well thought out and very well executed – he added, making it clear that the objective was to lift the former Flu player’s spirits after the episode.

Cano, who scored Fluminense’s first goal in the match, didn’t join in the fun, explained Nino.

– Cano is more shy in this sense, but John Kennedy patted his chest and said: “No, leave it to me, Fred will be honored”. Too good, Fred deserves this honor – concluded the defender, with good humor.
