According to the newsletter released this Friday (1) by the federal prison in Tucson, Arizona, where the police officer convicted of George Floyd’s death, Derek Chauvin, is serving his sentence, the attack he suffered on November 24 resulted in 22 stab wounds.

Attack

Chauvin was in the prison library when another inmate, John Turscak, 52, who is also serving time in Tucson, stabbed him 22 times with a makeshift knife. Turscak now faces yet another charge of attempted murder – the inmate, in addition to serving a 30-year sentence for crimes committed while he was part of the Mexican mafia, already had a charge of attempted murder for another knife attack, committed on another inmate. in the same prison.

And, according to the official prison report, the inmate told prison officials that he had been planning the attack for about a month, and that he would have killed the former police officer if they had not detained him. Turscak also stated that the date of the attack had a reason: to attempt the life of a racist murderer in the middle of “sexta-feira Negra” American, as it was a symbolic act to reaffirm the movement created after Floyd’s death and which took over the world, “Black Lives Matter” (Black lives matter). Chauvin is still hospitalized and in serious condition; further information about his condition has not been released.

Murder of George Floyd

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, convicted in 2021 of the murder of George Floyd, committed in 2020, after Chauvin held him to the ground, resting his knee on Floyd’s neck, killing him by asphyxiation. He was serving a 21-year sentence for violating the man’s civil rights and 22 and a half years for his murder.

Regarding the first conviction, the former police officer admitted himself guilty of the charges, regarding third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, Chauvin states that he did not have the intention, therefore, declaring himself innocent.

The American Supreme Court has already rejected the request to annul the murder charge, however, the convicted man’s lawyers continue to try to reverse the outcome of the trial.
