A 5-year-old child was seriously injured today following a collision between two vehicles, in Figueira da Foz, in the district of Coimbra, in an accident that caused two more serious injuries, said a fire department source.

In addition to the child, a 30-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man were also seriously injured, all transported to the Figueira da Foz District Hospital (HDFF), Nuno Pinto, commander of the Sapadores Firefighters, told the Lusa agency.

The accident, whose warning was given at 7:43 pm, occurred on the old Estrada Nacional (EN) 111, already within the urban perimeter of Figueira da Foz, in the area adjacent to Alto da Salmanha and next to the Funerary Complex, in a section where that road it passes under a viaduct on Highway 14 (A14).

At the site, which was closed to traffic during security and relief operations for the victims, there were members of the fire brigade Sapadores and Volunteers of Figueira da Foz, Volunteers of Montemor-o-Velho, Portuguese Red Cross, PSP and National Emergency Institute Medical (INEM) – Immediate Life Support (SIV) ambulance from Cantanhede and Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle from HDFF – in a total of 27 operational and 12 vehicles.
