“AND Therefore, it is urgent, very urgent to remove the socialists from power, but more than the socialists from power, it is urgent to remove socialist policies from power”, said the former liberal leader in a speech lasting around 15 minutes at a rally in Porto.
A party is not its people, but its ideas, he said, adding that “the responsibility for the state the country is in does not specifically lie with Guterres, Sócrates, Costa or Pedro Nuno Santos”, but with socialist policies.
“They are all the face of the same problem and the basic problem of this country is socialist policies and it is these socialist policies that we need to move away from the country”, he stressed.
Before a full room, Carlos Guimarães Pinto, who left the IL leadership in 2019, also spoke about the call for useful voting and the “disrespect” that this represents for democracy.
“The talk of the so-called useful vote is disrespectful towards multi-party democracy”, he insisted.
In his opinion, the useful vote in a healthy democracy is a convinced vote and not a tactical vote.
And he warned: “Do not doubt, there is no vote more useful than voting for someone you believe in and there is no vote more useful than voting for the Liberal Initiative because our usefulness is visible to everyone.”
Carlos Guimarães Pinto stressed that never in Portugal has there been so much talk about the tax burden on income from work, there has never been so much talk about the “drama of young emigration” as there is today and there has never been so much talk about the importance of investment for growth.
