After sightings, promises and a lot of speculation, the Titano, the first mid-size pickup in Fiat’s history, arrives on the market. Trusting in its tradition in the smaller pickup truck market, with the Strada among the compacts and the Toro – which lowered its price to await the arrival of its “sister” – in the intermediaries, the automaker wants to fight in the entry-level categories of the segment that includes the Ford Ranger , Chevrolet S10, Nissan Frontier and Mitsubishi L200.

Imported from the Nordex factory in Uruguay, the Titano is based on the Peugeot Landtrek, which received adaptations to debut in the Brazilian market, but has basically the same design as its twin of French origin. There will be three trim versions available: Endurance, Volcano and Ranch.

Fiat is betting on the cost-benefit ratio to gain its market share, since sales expectations are between 800 and 1,000 units per month, according to the brand. The price, which starts at R$219,990, is quite competitive, even more so because the automaker usually offers large discounts in relation to the list price, especially when purchasing via CNPJ. In other words, companies that need a truck for heavy work can find a more affordable alternative at Titano.

Titano powertrain

All versions feature the same 180 hp 2.2 turbodiesel engine, which is exclusive to the pickup truck – that is, it does not equip any other Stellantis vehicle. In the entry-level Endurance model, the transmission is a six-speed manual. Therefore, the torque is 37.7 mkgf. In other configurations, with six-speed automatic transmission, it is 40.8 mkgf.

But all three options receive a reduced all-wheel drive system. In addition, other equipment is also standard on all of them, such as rear differential lock, towing assistant, hill hold control (ramp start assistant) and hill descent control (automatic descent control).

With this powertrain, the Titano accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.5 seconds (14.7 seconds in the Endurance), but all reach a top speed of 175 km/h. Consumption, however, varies between versions. According to Inmetro, there are 9.6 km/l (city and highway) in the Endurance; 8.6 km/l (city) and 9.3 km/l (highway) in the Volcano and 8.5 km/l (city) and 9.2 km/l (highway) in the Ranch.
