After a long wait following a surprising change of brand and name, the Fiat Titano pickup truck (which would be Peugeot Landtrek) finally made its official debut in Brazil. The unprecedented pickup truck produced in Uruguay has a manual version and two automatic versions, all with 4×4 drive, with very attractive prices.

The most affordable automatic version is the intermediate one Titano Volcano, which costs R$239,990, that is, R$32,200 less than the entry-level automatic version of the Toyota Hilux (R$272,190). According to Fiat, this is the road version of its pickup truck.

Above it there is Titano Ranch, top of the line, also 6-speed automatic, for R$ 259,990, for consumers looking for greater exclusivity. To give an idea of the price difference, the automatic versions of the Toyota Hilux range from R$289,990 (intermediate) to R$334,890 (superior), not counting the top of the sports line (R$372,890).

As Guia do Carro anticipated on March 9, the Titano Endurance, entry-level version, has a 6-speed manual transmission and costs R$219,990. This is the option for work and its price is R$24,500 cheaper than the entry-level version of the Nissan Frontier or R$22,600 below the basic Toyota Hilux.

All versions of the Fiat Titano are equipped with a 2.2 turbo diesel engine with 180 hp (the lowest power in the category) and a 1,109 liter (VDA) and 2.6 m2 bucket. Without a bucket protector, there are 1,314 liters (the largest volume in the category). Torque is 400 Nm in the automatic versions and 370 Nm in the manual.

Fiat’s new pickup also has the highest towing capacity among category D pickups (large medium-sized trucks with body on chassis). It’s 3,500 kg. It can tow a huge 30-foot (9.60 m) boat or even, comfortably, another Titano pickup truck (which weighs 2,150 kg).

The 2.2 Blue HDi engine was chosen by Stellantis due to its successful application in Peugeot Expert and Citroën Jumper vans and vans, which are also manufactured in Uruguay.

During the truck’s presentation in Chapada dos Guimarães, MT, we asked the vice-president of Stellantis, Herlander Zola, whether the lower power might not be a competitive disadvantage for the Fiat Titano.

“We need to be honest, on paper the difference of 20 horses can make a difference for those who have not tested the Titano,” said Zola. “But we are convinced that, with 180 horsepower, it delivers everything the pickup truck consumer needs.”

Despite being an adaptation of the Peugeot Landtrek (which is sold in Mexico and perhaps Stellantis’s option for Argentina), the Fiat Titano was surprising in appearance. On the outside, designer Peter Fassbender (creator of the Fiat Toro, Fiat Strada and Ram Rampage pickup trucks) opted for a very imposing front end and a very elegant rear end.

There is a lot of attention to the pickup’s external visual details. The front grille had four versions and the one chosen features elements inspired by some modern French Peugeot cars, but without losing the Fiat identity, such as the flag with the colors of Italy, enlarged in relation to other models of the brand.

It is very easy to visually distinguish the three versions. The Titano Endurance, manual, has a lot of black plastic on the front and rear, while the 17” steel wheels (265/65 tires) are black.

The Titano Volcano and Titano Ranch, both automatic, have the most sophisticated front end, with a Piano Black grille and chrome inserts at the top of the line. The wheels on the AT6 versions are different: 17” with 265/65 tires on the Volcano, with a black background and chrome surround; and 18”, with very “rubbery” 265/60 tires on the Ranch.

The name Titano, applied to the tailgate of the three versions, uses the Stellantis font (easily visible in the shape of the letter A).

Inside, the Fiat Titano has an instrument panel with a reversed rev counter, a 10” multimedia screen mounted on the panel and a detail that “denounces” its Peugeot origins: the central controls are of the piano type, the same as those of the Peugeot 3008. The multimedia center has the capacity to store 10 GB.

The interior houses 17 storage compartments totaling 27.2 liters. Depending on the version, there is a 180-degree camera (unique in the price range) or a 360-degree camera. Among the highlights, Fiat cited 6 airbags, lane departure warning, hill descent control and trailer stability control.

Fiat has emphasized the off-road capability of its new pickup truck. Therefore, in relation to the Peugeot Landtrek, engineer Paulo Bruno opted for new springs in the front suspension, as well as new seats and tires combined with the chassis assembly.

The pickup measures 5.33 m long, 1.96 m wide and 1.89 m high. The wheelbase is 3.18 m. With a clearance of 225 mm, the Fiat Titano is capable of crossing flooded areas of up to 600 mm. The entry angle is 29 degrees and the exit angle is 27, while the ramp crossing angle is 25 degrees.

We have already evaluated the Ranch AT6 version on the dirt and asphalt roads of Chapada dos Guimarães. The test drive we did in Mato Grosso will be available from the 14th (text, photos and video), in compliance with the information embargo imposed by the manufacturer. The Fiat Titano will reach 520 dealerships by the end of March, but sales are now open.
