Lula and ministers try to reduce rice prices

-

Agricultural ministers said, this Thursday (14), that they expect a reduction in the price of rice by next month. After meeting with President Lula, the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, and of Agrarian Development, Paulo Teixeira, explained that the increase in food prices is seasonal.

Carlos Fávaro also highlighted that the price of rice, for example, has already dropped by 20% with the harvest of a new crop. The minister hopes that this drop will also happen for consumers.

The price of food was one of the factors that weighed most on the IPCA between November and January. Minister Paulo Teixeira stated that weather conditions were responsible for this increase.

The ministers also discussed with President Lula the changes that will be made in the next harvest plan to expand food production, especially rice, beans, corn, wheat and cassava.

Teixeira and Fávaro highlighted the role of Conab, the National Supply Company, to regulate stocks and guarantee income for producers and better prices for consumers.

Minister Carlos Fávaro also informed that sectors such as fruit growing, coffee growing, cotton and livestock farming have already requested meetings with President Lula to discuss the specific agenda of these segments.
