The Rio Civil Police expects to hear today from the person responsible for the Rio bus station, where the kidnapping of a bus took place on Tuesday. Police chief Mário Andrade wants to understand how kidnapper Paulo Sérgio de Lima entered the armed group and why there are no metal detectors or searches for passengers who are about to board there.

Around 20 people have already given testimony, including one of those shot in the kidnapping, passengers and the driver of the van robbed by the criminal two days earlier. Investigators will also hear from other BOPE police officers who participated in the negotiation and people who were in the robbed van.

Kidnapper Paulo Sérgio de Lima was transferred from Benfica to Bangu 1. This Thursday (14), the Rio Courts converted his arrest into preventative arrest. In the decision, judge Pedro Ivo Martins Caruso D’Ippolito highlighted the criminal history of the criminal, his aggressive behavior against criminal police officers and the circumstances of the crime, which ended with two people being shot – one of them hospitalized in a serious condition. The kidnapper is also responsible for the stabbing death of a man in Minas Gerais and for robberies in Rio.

The court accepted a request from Paulo Sérgio’s defense for him to be transferred to a prison that did not house prisoners linked to Rocinha drug traffickers, for fear of reprisals. According to investigations, the kidnapper bought a ticket to try to escape to Juiz de Fora, in Minas Gerais, after getting involved in a dispute with criminals from the South Zone community and ended up shooting one of them.

Engineering student Bruno Lima da Costa Soares, 34, who was shot in the chest and abdomen, remains hospitalized in a serious but stable condition. He is at Samaritano hospital, in the South Zone.

The police already have images from the bus’s internal security cameras that show the kidnapper’s entire action.
