The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes was chosen as the case’s rapporteur Marielle Franco at the Court. Moraes’ name came up among five other ministers of the 1st Panel of the Supreme Court.

The investigation was sent to the STF by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) because one of those investigated has a privileged jurisdiction. The investigation is being carried out in secrecy and there are no details of who the person cited in the investigations would be.

Privileged forum is a legal mechanism that guarantees that authorities are judged directly by the STF. They are: president, vice-president, state ministers, senators, federal deputies, members of the higher courts, the Federal Court of Auditors and ambassadors.

The murder of Marielle and her driver Anderson Gomes completed six years on Thursday, 14. They are arrested for the crime: Ronie Lessa, Élcio de Queiroz, Maxwell Simões Corrêa and Edilson Barbosa dos Santos.

Ronie Lessa and Élcio are accused of carrying out the crime. Ronnie Lessa is a former military police officer and has been in pre-trial detention since March 2019. He was the person responsible for the shots that killed Marielle and Anderson. Élcio is also a former PM and was the driver of the car.

Remember the crime

At around 9:30 pm, Marielle and Anderson were shot on a street in Estácio, in the north of the city, by seven shots, fired from inside a car, when they were returning from an event promoted by the councilwoman’s party, PSOL. Journalist Fernanda Chaves, then the parliamentarian’s advisor, was in the vehicle, was hit by flying glass and survived the attack.
