Leandro Boldrini, sentenced to 31 years and eight months in prison for the death of his son Bernardo, was chosen to participate in the Medical Residency Program in Trauma Surgery at the Santa Maria University Hospital (Husm). The result was announced in an additional notice last Tuesday (12). Although confirmation of Boldrini’s place should be made by Wednesday (13), there is still no information about his participation in the program. When contacted by Diário, one of Boldrini’s lawyers, Ezequiel Vetoretti, declared that he does not get involved in his client’s personal matters. Boldrini is currently serving a semi-open sentence at the Santa Maria Regional Penitentiary, which allows him to work during the day and return to prison only to sleep and on weekends.

Husm stated that, if there is no legal impediment, successful candidates can be selected. In relation to Boldrini, despite the conviction, there are no restrictions on the practice of medicine, as in November 2023, he was unanimously acquitted in a disciplinary process carried out by the Regional Council of Medicine of Rio Grande do Sul (Cremers), in Porto Happy. The internal investigation concluded that Boldrini did not violate any code of medical ethics.

In January of this year, Boldrini also participated in the selection process for the Medical Residency Program in Coloproctology at Husm, placing fourth, but there was only one place available.

Husm’s note:

“The Santa Maria University Hospital (HUSM/Ebserh) and the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) operate by striving for democracy, legality and transparency. All selection processes and competitions are public and, in the absence of legal impediments, all residents and professionals selected respect the order of classification. The selection process for Medical Residency (MR) complies with the legislation of the National Medical Residency Commission, including the publication of its notices. All candidates who meet the requirements are eligible to enroll, carry out of the tests and, when approved, confirmation of the vacancy”.

Remembering the Case:

Bernardo Boldrini disappeared at the age of 11 in Três Passos, on April 4, 2014. He lived with his father, stepmother and a one-year-old half-sister. Bernardo’s body was discovered ten days later, buried in a grave on the banks of the Mico River, in Frederico Westphalen. The child was allegedly drugged and killed before being buried in a plastic bag.

On the same day, the child’s father and stepmother, Graciele Ugulini, were arrested, suspected of being, respectively, the intellectual mentor and the perpetrator of the crime. Graciele had the collaboration of her friend, Edelvania Wirganovicz. A few days later, Evandro Wirganovicz was arrested on suspicion of preparing the grave where the boy was buried.

Current Situation of Defendants:

Leandro Boldrini is serving a semi-open sentence at the Santa Maria Regional Penitentiary.

Graciele Ugulini is in the closed regime at the Madre Pelletier Women’s State Penitentiary, but intends to request, later this year, a transfer to the semi-open regime, which allows daily departures for work.

Edelvânia Wirganovicz is under house arrest with electronic monitoring in the semi-open regime.

Evandro Wirganovicz has already served his prison sentence, which was terminated on January 23, 2024.
