One of the most popular destinations for them turns out to be Portugal due to its proximity and the language issue, but sometimes they end up forgetting to measure the consequences of their own choices and how much they can “weigh”.

Often the beginning of this new life or the construction of this dream is not always easy, it involves several uncertainties, uncertainties and fears, especially when we add to this the difficulty of finding housing in the country, it seems that despair takes over everything and in the end, it aims to swallow us.

In a country where the minimum wage is around €800 and many families only depend on a single salary to survive, I think: “how is it possible for rent to be around €1000”?

More than that… to pay a rent of a thousand euros you first need to find that house (if you do, as it’s easier to start a war these days than to find a house to rent).

And I haven’t even mentioned the invasion and even the feeling of humiliation that human beings feel when asked, by owners, about all types of information about the life of the potential tenant, as they need to feel safe to hand over their home to a supposed unknown (deep down I understand, because some do wrong things and everyone suffers the consequences of the actions of the previous one, as they say: “one does it and everyone pays”).

This only gets worse when the future tenant, despite having money to pay rent, does not have an employment contract, does not have a formal job or, even, when his income comes from another country.

What about when you can’t pay a full rent? Several families or young people at the beginning of their lives are forced to rent a room and share the kitchen and the privacy of the bathroom with other people, most of the time strangers and for an amount of approximately 500 euros or more.

But this, unfortunately, is not just a problem for so-called foreigners, but for everyone who lives in Portugal, whether natives or not, who do not have their own home and who are not financially advantaged.

I think that what every honest tenant, who is currently looking for a house, wanted from landlords was more empathy and humanity. From the government, I think it’s best not to go into this matter.

Note: I wrote this thought before the elections. Let’s see what this new government has in store for us, but I’m not talking about politics, but about the integrity of every citizen of this Portuguese nation.
