Task force formed by the Tactical Force, Shock Battalion, BOPE (Special Operations Battalion) and Garras (Bank Robbery, Robbery and Kidnapping Suppression Police Station) arrested five suspects for involvement in the murders of João Vitor Oliveira de Souza, 21 years old , and football teacher Jair Ferreira Jara, 49, at a Multi-Sports Gym in the city of Sonora, 362 km from Campo Grande. The war between criminal factions left two families orphaned. The target of the shots survived.

The attack occurred late in the morning of Friday, March 15, and left the population of Sonora in shock. The duo suspected of carrying out the shooting arrived at the scene on a motorcycle and acted in front of children. João tried to leave the sports center, but was hit at the door by several pistol shots.

According to a witness, when the teacher saw the scene, he tried to help the victim, but upon realizing that he had been shot, he fled across the football field, but was caught and also executed by the shooter. Afterwards, the pair fled.

O Campo Grande News obtained information that the shooters’ target was inside an administrative room at the gym, when he heard the sound of gunshots. He ran, was chased into the bathroom. The shot hit his shirt, but didn’t hit him. The boy confessed that he was already part of the criminal faction CV (Comando Vermelho).

Prisons – With the support of security camera images, the police reached at least six people, five of whom were arrested for involvement in the crime. The two executors, João Pablo Kataguiri, 18 years old, and Wanderson Ferreira Alves, 26, were found in Coxim. The companions paid Pix R$400 for a taxi driver to take them to the city, as they were unable to catch a bus at the bus station.

João Pablo and Wanderson have convictions for drug trafficking, theft and reception.

The other four involved are those who provided support with logistics, weapons and the escape. They were arrested in Sonora, being: Anderson Gomes do Nascimento, Henrique da Silva Medeiros and Kevin Willian Ferreira Martins.

A minor, who was already being monitored by the police for being part of the PCC and exercising a leadership role, is also identified as being involved. However, there is no information whether he was seized.

The Military Police confirmed that the information is that João and the teacher were not targets of the criminals. They were, unfortunately, victims of a war between the criminal factions PCC and CV for control of drug trafficking in the region. War that has already claimed four victims this year alone in the city of Sonora.

According to the commander of the 5th Military Police Battalion in Coxim, responsible for the Sonora area, lieutenant colonel Adriano Rodrigues de Oliveira, the current scenario is a “big dog fight” and that since Friday, when the deaths of the student and from the teacher, policing has increased to make the population feel safer.
