Photographer Gualberto Boa Morte, a worthy citizen of Viana do Castelo since 2016, died this Tuesday at the age of 81 in the Congregação da Caridade nursing home.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday, at the Igreja da Ordem Terceira, at 3 pm.
Gualberto Boa Morte was born on September 29, 1943, in Vila Franca de Xira, in the district of Lisbon. In 2016, 40 years after he began residing in the capital of Alto Minho, the municipality of Viana do Castelo awarded him the title of citizen of merit “for the relevant services provided to the art of photography”.
Previously, in 2007, the acquisition of the estate of Gualberto Boa Morte, at the time a contributor to the newspaper Aurora do Lima, the second oldest in the country, founded in 1855, was unanimously approved. regional social communication.
In 2007, the municipality invested 261 thousand euros to store, in the municipal archive, around 150 thousand negatives, portraying ethnography and pilgrimages, monumental and landscape heritage, socio-cultural and political events over more than 30 years.
Boa Morte also worked in Angola for the country’s Diamond Company, where he gathered a collection of uses and customs of the Quioco people, Luanda Norte. In Alto Minho he carried out numerous photographic works, highlighting the heritage, festivals, pilgrimages, uses and customs.
He is the author of several posters for pilgrimages and others with tourist and cultural themes.
His works were exhibited in several exhibitions, such as the Casino Estoril, the Lisbon International Fair (FIL), the Crafts Fair, the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) and Casa do Minho, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. .
