Women’s Tennis Snags Doubles Point in Loss to Jacksonville State

-

NEW ORLEANS – The top two doubles teams secured the first point of the day and the New Orleans Privateers had three players come force a third set in singles but Jacksonville State prevailed 6-1 at the Privateer Tennis Center.

The match started with a solid doubles point from the Privateers. Tristanne Dechoux and Anastasia Kouchnareva pulled away to a 6-2 victory at flight one. Laurie Barendse and Ksenia Reznitskaya also continued their good run of form in doubles as the pair won their match 6-2 at flight two.

In singles, the Gamecocks quickly asserted command as they got to a 3-1 lead. Serafima Shastova won 6-2, 6-3 at flight one. Dariana Prato scored a 6-1, 6-4 win at flight four and Ella Tuomela won 6-2, 6-1 at flight six.

The Gamecocks were up a set and at least a break on the remaining three courts but the trio of Reznitskaya, Kouchnareva and Kateryna Kalistratova were resilient. They all came back from early deficits to win their second sets and force a third.

Reznitskaya broke Irene Artigas’ serve three times to rally from 4-1 down to a 6-4 second set. Kouchnareva came back from an early 3-0 deficit to take her second set 7-5 against Polina Ramenskaja. Kalistratova rallied from down an early break to take her second set 7-5 against Anna Syrova.

However, Jacksonville State took the remaining matches that stretched to a third set. Between the three, they awarded only five games.
