Federal Police
The Federal Police, together with the State Secretariat for the Environment (Sema), concluded, this Wednesday (20), Operation Flumen, which aimed to combat the crime of illegal gold extraction in the bed of the Peixoto River, in Peixoto de Azevedo.
The investigations began in 2023 following an anonymous complaint regarding unauthorized mining activity in mines located on the bed of the Peixoto River.
During the police searches, miners were caught using rafts to remove the gold, who escaped following the police action. In total, eight mining ferries were destroyed.

The activity causes various environmental damages, such as the silting of the Peixoto River, the degradation of water quality, which directly impacts the local fish fauna.
