The National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (Iphan) signed a term of commitment with the Municipality of Ouro Preto, in the Central Region of Minas Gerais, for the restoration of the Church of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos, closed since 2014 due to compromised structure. The document was signed last Thursday (21).
In total, they will be invested R$3.7 million in:
- structures and structural reinforcement;
- roof renovation;
- frames;
- masonry;
- drainage;
- external agency;
- floors and ceilings;
- front wall and side wall (partially).
The church was built between 1771 and 1793 and is dedicated to São Miguel e Almas, Sagrados Corações and Bom Jesus de Matosinhos. The property has been listed at federal level since 1939.
On the facade, the doorway has a carved image of São Miguel Archangel attributed to Aleijadinho. Inside, in the side corridors, there are two paintings by Manuel da Costa Ataíde, Mestre Ataíde, which represent steps from the Passion of Christ.
“The PAC of historic cities authorizes the restoration of the Church of Senhor Bom Jesus de Matosinhos and São Miguel e Almas das Cabeças, one of the most important churches in Ouro Preto, Minas and Brazil. […] Ouro Preto City Hall created the project, and the federal government is now financing this project”, said Mayor Angelo Oswaldo (PV), in a video published on social media.
O g1 He asked Iphan what the estimated start date of the works was and is awaiting a response.
