Three suspects of being the masterminds behind the murder of the councilor Marielle Franco (photo) and driver Anderson Gomes, in 2018, were arrested this Sunday, the 24th, in a joint operation by the Attorney General’s Office, the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro and the Federal Police.
Were arrested Domingos Brazãoadvisor to the Court of Auditors of the State of Rio de Janeiro (TCE-RJ), appointed as the mastermind of the crime, the federal deputy Chiquinho Brazão (União-RJ), brother of Domingos Brazão and Rivaldo Barbosaformer head of Rio’s Civil Police.
Search and seizure warrants were also issued at the Rio Civil Police headquarters and at the State Court of Auditors.
The deputy Chiquinho Brazão was mentioned in the plea bargain of former military police officer Ronnie Lessa as one of those involved in the murder of Marielle Franco.
The mention of Chiquinho Brazão, as we have shown, made the case leave the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) and head to the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
STF approves Ronnie Lessa’s plea
The Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski, reported last week that Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, approved Ronnie Lessa’s plea bargain.
He is arrested as part of the investigation into the murder of councilor Marielle Franco and her driver, Anderson Gomes, in 2018.
According to Lewandowski, after the approval of the plea, the conclusion of the case will be “soon”.
