The Federal Police (PF) decided to bring forward to the early hours of Sunday (24) the operation that arrested the brothers Chiquinho and Domingos Brazão, suspected of ordering the murder of Marielle Franco, and the former head of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, Rivaldo Barbosa.

The decision to arrest them on an atypical day was a strategy by the PF to prevent the leaking of information about the case and also the escape of the trio, as detailed by presenter César Tralli, on GloboNews, and columnist Andréia Sadi in a blog on G1 .

To Sadi, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, stated that there was a fear that the three could escape before being arrested by the Federal Police. He also pointed out that the operation was brought forward ‘by a few days’ to prevent information from leaking.

Federal deputy Chiquinho Brazão (União Brasil-RJ) and his brother Domingos Brazão, who is an advisor to the State Court of Auditors (TCE), are suspected of ordering the murder of Marielle Franco. Police chief Rivaldo Barbosa was head of the Civil Police at the time of the crime and is suspected of having covered up the Brazão brothers; Documents even prove that General Walter Braga Netto, then federal intervener in RJ, appointed Rivaldo Barbosa on the eve of the attack.
