The Baixada Santista region, on the coast of São Paulo, saw an 8% drop in accidents without fatal victims in February, compared to the same month last year. However, traffic fatalities increased by 31% in the region in February. The data comes from Infosiga-SP, a São Paulo Government system coordinated by Detran-SP and managed by the Respect for Life program.

According to new data from Infosiga-SP, Baixada Santista presented drop of 8% in accidents without deaths in Februarycompared to the same month in 2023. In total, there were 605 occurrences, compared to 661 in February last year.

At the accumulated this year, the reduction of accident without deaths it’s from 5% in Santos and surrounding municipalities. In total, there were 1,313 occurrences in the last two months and 1,387 in the first two months of 2023.

In relation to accidents with traffic deaths, in the comparison between February 2024 and 2023, there was an increase of 31% in the region. In the two months, there was a drop in 3% in deaths in traffic in the region. To date, there have been 33 registrations in 2024 compared to 34 registrations in the first two months of 2023.

In 2024, there were drop in deaths involving pedestrians and cyclists in Baixada Santista, respectively 33% and 25%. In the first two months of this year, there were eight pedestrian deaths and 12 deaths were recorded between January and February 2023. Among the cyclists in the region, there were three deaths recorded in 2024, compared to four deaths in the first two months of last year.

Among the motorcyclistsunfortunately, there is a record of 13% increase of deaths in Baixada Santista in the first two months of 2024. According to the data, there were 17 deaths this year and 15 deaths between January and February 2023.

In the automobile category, which had not reported deaths at the beginning of 2023 in the region, two deaths in the first two months of 2024.
