She said she found Dimas giving Lívia a cardiac massage and talking to a Samu attendant when they entered the apartment. The doctor added that, from then on, they took over the emergency, and that it was not necessary to carry out containment because the young woman was not actively bleeding in any part of her body.
Security camera footage shows that one of the rescuers returned to the ambulance to get equipment. The object in question would be a manual resuscitator, used in cases of respiratory failure, because the one they had taken was not “working well”.
It took 51 minutes from the call for help until Livia arrived at the hospital. She had two stops cardiorespiratory in the apartment, before being removed from the scene, and then two others before dying. The case is being investigated as a suspicious death and authorities are still awaiting medical reports to verify whether the victim had any illness.
Dimas’ defense criticized the delay in service. “Time was essential for the evolution of the death, it took too long. Is Samu prepared to obstetric care?” asked Lenoir.
The City of São Paulo commented on the case. The agency reported that the ambulance arrived at the entrance within 11 minutes of receiving the call, that the professionals were detained at the entrance, that it was not informed of the incident, and that the use of the manual resuscitator takes place after the first procedures, which took place within the time foreseen in the care protocol. The public administration also regretted what it considered an attempt by Dimas’ lawyer to “attribute responsibility unreasonable to Samu, a fundamental service to save lives”.
The case
The 19-year-old nursing student and the athlete, then 18, arranged to meet on January 30. They had known each other for at least last year and had been talking frequently for about three months. The two sides disagree on whether or not it was the first time the young people met.
