Demand for eggs tends to increase during Holy Week Wenderson Araujo/Trilux/CNA
Although high temperatures in recent weeks have negatively affected egg production – resulting in bird mortality, a drop in production, especially of larger eggs, and worsening product quality – the supply and demand dynamics in the market remained practically the same. Thus, average egg values remained practically stable from March 18 to 22 in the regions monitored by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP.
On Friday (22/3), in the Greater São Paulo region, a box with 30 dozen white eggs was priced at R$ 175.12. A box of red eggs had an average price of R$203.36.
For this week, the expectation of Cepea’s collaborating agents is that the demand for eggs will grow, based on this Holy Week period.
