This time, the conclusion is from a Portuguese study: electric and hybrid vehicles have higher accident rates than fuel cars.

The conclusion is not unprecedented but, this time, it appears in a study carried out in Portugal.

Fidelidade, the insurance company, concluded that Driving an electric car (or a hybrid) is synonymous with a greater chance of having an accident.

The data was collected through the company’s own customer records and revealed by the newspaper Correio da Manhã.

Electric cars and hybrids have higher accident rates than fuel-powered cars.

In the case of electrical, the probability increases greatly: 50%. Us hybrids, the accident rate is 25% bigger.

You reasons, as we have already shared, they are: more sudden acceleration, less control of the car at that moment, heavier, more damage and quieter – the pedestrian is more likely to not notice the car and be run over.

More accidents and more money expense: shocks are on a different scale, whether with objects or people, and repairs are more expensive (26% for trams and 11% for hybrids); and cars stay stopped for longer.

Even with these differences, the insurance price does not change whether the car is electric or hybrid.
