UAn American woman has been accused of beating her five-year-old daughter to death almost three months ago and hiding her body, which has not yet been found.
According to the Associated Press, citing the Syracuse Post-Standard, Latasha Mott, 29 years old, from Syracuse, New York, United States, was accused of involuntary manslaughter and disposing of the corpse of her daughter, Nefertiti Harris.
Syracuse police are searching fields and woods using various means, including a drone, to try to find the body.
William Fitzpatrick, Onondaga County District Attorney, revealed that the investigation began on Sunday, when family members concerned about Nefertiti’s whereabouts contacted police.
That day, authorities questioned Mott, who confessed to hitting Nefertiti with a belt several times while the girl was in the shower on January 6, killing her. After that, he hid her body in a charred area.
Before the judge this Monday, the woman declared herself innocent. “It’s too early for me to make any assessment regarding the case,” the woman’s lawyer revealed to the Associated Press via telephone call.
