Taiwan conducts air defense drills amid heightened tensions with China

Taiwan carried out early morning air defense exercises on Tuesday, utilizing surface-to-air missiles, as well as air, land, and naval forces, in response to what it perceives as increased military activities by China in the region. The drills come amidst ongoing tensions between Taiwan and China, with the latter claiming Taiwan as its own territory, reported Reuters.Over the past four years, Taiwan has raised concerns about repeated instances of Chinese military aircraft and navy ships operating in close proximity to the island. In response, Taiwan’s air force command announced that it had conducted comprehensive air defense exercises between 5 am and 7 am, employing domestically produced Sky Bow missiles and US-made Patriot surface-to-air missiles, along with aircraft and navy vessels.The purpose of the drills, according to the air force, was to assess and validate the joint air defense combat command and control capabilities across all three branches of the military.
