When analyzing the price behavior of the 30 main horticultural products sold at the Curitiba unit of Centrais de Abastecimento do Paraná – CEASAS/PR, from the beginning of this year until last week, a mixed trend is observed. According to what was published in the Agricultural Situation Bulletin for the week of March 15th to 21st, distributed by the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab), 17 products registered an increase in price, eight had drop and five remained stable during the period.

The Curitiba unit of CEASAS/PR transacts around two thirds of the total volume of 1.3 million tons from the five warehouses distributed in the state, and among the products sold are seventeen vegetables, twelve fruits and one farm product (eggs).

Among fruits, nine showed increases in prices, while three recorded a drop. In vegetable crops, seven products had an increase in prices, five decreased and five remained stable. It is worth noting that a box with 30 dozen extra white eggs rose 28.1% between January 2nd and March 11th, going from R$160.00 to R$205.00.

Some of the most relevant variations include the premium caturra/dwarf banana, which increased by 87.5%, reaching R$75.00 per 20kg box last week, compared to R$40.00 at the beginning of January. Extra purple sweet potatoes and large curly lettuce also recorded significant increases of 62.5% and 60.0%, respectively.

On the other hand, there were drops in the prices of products such as extra A pickled cucumber, special washed common potato, extra AA chayote, large cauliflower and large cabbage. In fruits, the biggest drops were observed in the pink Niagara grape, round watermelon and avocado.

These variations in prices can be attributed, in part, to erratic weather conditions, with excessive heat waves, above-average rainfall and poor sunshine in spring, affecting production and contributing to upward and downward movements in fruit and vegetable prices. .
