The Presidency of the Republic hosts this Tuesday, 26th, the ninth Superior Council for National Defense (CSDN) with the aim of appreciating and analyzing important strategic instruments for national defense policy.
The work agenda also includes the presentation of the Major Options of the Strategic Concept of National Defense, in which an opinion will be issued, to assess the Strategic Concept of National Defense, complying with the formality provided for by law.
The two planning instruments, according to the presidential press release, will be presented by Brigadier General Antero Matos.
The CSDN is chaired by the President of the Republic, who has a casting vote, and is composed of the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister and the members of the Government holding the portfolios of National Defense, Foreign Affairs, Administration Internal Affairs, Transport, Communications and Finance.
The council is also composed of three national deputies, elected by a two-thirds majority of the deputies, the chief and vice-chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, and any personalities may also be invited to participate, at the initiative of the President of the council or upon proposal from any of the members.
According to the CSDN regulations, dated November 3, 2020, in its article 7, it is up to this body to pronounce on the National Defense Policy, the major options of the Strategic Concept of National Defense, as well as the specification of the Forces’ missions.
