A container ship flying the flag of Singapore, operated by Synergy Marine Group, collided with the bridge in Baltimore around 1:30 am (local time, 2:30 am in Brasília), hitting one of the pillars and causing the structure to break and bend in several places, falling into the water in a matter of seconds. It is still unclear what caused the collision.
According to authorities, there are cars in the water, where the temperature was around 8ºC in the early hours of Tuesday. Two people were rescued, one in serious condition, according to Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace. He said authorities “may be looking for more than seven people,” but said that number could change.
