Mayor of Nova Odessa mourns death of secretary in accident between car and horse
Leitinho was taken to the Sumaré State Hospital (HES) after the accident. He remains hospitalized in stable condition, but is expected to be discharged this Tuesday (26).
The video was recorded with him still on the hospital stretcher and he claims he is fine. “My health is fine, thank God there is nothing, just five stitches here in my hand.” – Watch above.
He says that Mota picked him up at Guarulhos Airport. During the return journey, the horse crossed the track and caused the accident. “A horse, I don’t know where this horse came from, ended up taking my friend’s life.”
“The accident was terrible, it was ugly. Yesterday I lost a great friend, more than a friend, a brother.”
The mayor remembers that during the trip the two were relaxed. “We came talking, laughing, I bought him a little gift… I was on my way, we stopped at the restaurant in the middle of the track, we had some soup…”, he said.
Leitinho also thanks the care provided by the rescuers, doctors and nurses and thanks God for having survived. “God saved my life.”
Eduardo Luís da Silva Mota, was 68 years old and leaves behind children and grandchildren. Information about the wake and burial has not yet been released.
The mayor declared three days of official mourning in the city after the secretary’s death. The document published in the Official Gazette this Tuesday (26) reinforces Mota’s contribution to the city:
“[…] Committed to the development of the city, he helped in the operationalization of the municipality’s business and social programs, he leaves his contribution to political and social history and a legacy of love and companionship.”
According to the Highway Police, around eight horses were loose on the track at the time of the accident.. The vehicle in which the politicians were traveling was driven by the assistant secretary and ran over one of the animals.
Another passenger vehicle and two trucks hit two horses. No one in the other vehicles was injured. The animals died.
The accident occurred at 9:15 pm near Hortolândia (SP), according to the city hall. The victims were returning from São Paulo.
In a statement, the Public Security Secretariat reported that the case was registered as a homicide and being run over. The investigations will determine who will answer for the crimes.
