UAn accident involving a passenger bus on a German motorway, near the city of Leipzig, left at least five dead and around a dozen injured this Wednesday, according to the BBC.

According to this media outlet, the Flixbus bus may have lost track while entering the “busy A9 motorway” and overturned.

The A9 was closed in both directions so that authorities could help the victims. There were several ambulances at the scene, as well as helicopters.

According to Associated France Press (AFP), the bus had left Berlin and was destined for Zurich, Switzerland. There were 53 passengers and two drivers on board when the accident occurred, around 9:45 am local time (8:45 am in Lisbon).

“The exact circumstances of the accident are not yet known,” Flixbus said in a note sent to newsrooms, adding that the company is working “in close collaboration with the local authorities and emergency services present at the scene”, ensuring that it will do ” everything” within your power “to clarify the causes of the accident quickly and completely”.
