At least five people died in a serious bus accident on the A9 motorway, near Leipzig, Germany, this Wednesday morning. Authorities estimate that there are several injuries, which has led hospitals to prepare to receive emergencies.

The bus crashed between the Wiedemar and Schkeuditzer Kreuz intersections. The vehicle left the roadway and, for unknown reasons, collided with the side.

The highway is closed in both directions so that rescue helicopters and numerous ambulances in action can carry out rescue operations.

The Schkeuditzer Kreuz motorway interchange is located in the immediate vicinity of Leipzig/Halle airport. The A9 is a major north-south motorway connecting Berlin and Munich.

Meanwhile, hospitals in the area were preparing for a major operation. The emergency department has been alerted and operating theaters and diagnostic rooms are being kept on alert, said a spokesperson for Leipzig’s Deaconess Hospital.

In 2019, there was a serious bus accident on the A9 motorway near Bad Dürrenberg in Saxony-Anhalt. A woman died and several people were injured. In December 2023, another bus crashed on the A9 motorway, causing several injuries.
